The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic has published data on the average monthly wage for 2025. This is an important indicator not only from the perspective of the labor market, but also from the perspective of taxes and contributions. The average wage is included in the calculations of several quantities, which are subsequently reflected in the practice of entrepreneurs and employees.

Average wage in 2025: nominally increased, real growth slowed

According to data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, the average nominal monthly wage for the entire year 2025 reached 1 620 €, which represents year-on-year increase of 6.3 % (i.e. by approximately €96). Wage growth continued, but the pace of increase was lowest in the last five years. After taking inflation into account, wages also grew in real terms, but more slowly; real growth should have reached approximately 2,2 %.

Where to earn the most: industries with the highest and lowest wages

In practice, average wages vary significantly by industry. In 2025, both nominal and real wages grew in all industries monitored, but the differences remain significant.

  • Lowest wages were traditionally in accommodation and catering services, where the average wage reached approximately 969 € (the only sector not to exceed the €1,000 mark).

  • Highest wages exceeding 2 600 € small employees in financial and insurance activities, energy supply and in the industry information and communications.

Regions: Bratislava leads, differences are still large

Regional differences also remain significant. The highest wages were again in Bratislava Region (1 949 €). On the opposite side of the ranking was Prešov Region (1 285 €). The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic also reports that all regions recorded both nominal and real growth, but differences between regions remain significant.

Maximum assessment base in social insurance in 2027

The average wage also affects maximum assessment basis in social insurance (for employees and self-employed persons). Since it is 11 times the average wage, in 2027 it should achieve:

  • 11 × €1,620 = €17,820.

Minimum wage 2027: possible automatic increase

Last but not least, the average wage can also affect minimum wage. Unless the representatives of employees and employers agree otherwise, the minimum wage shall be determined by an automatic formula as follows: 60 % of the average wage two years ago.

This would mean for 2027:

  • increase from 915 € on 972 € (i.e. +57 €)

This growth is usually accompanied by an increase in wage supplements (e.g. for night work, weekend, holiday), as they are linked to the minimum wage.
